UPA-A Certification vs USAP Approved

UPA-A Certified Only*

The United Pickleball Association (UPA) and USA Pickleball (USAP) are taking different approaches to grow pickleball. USA Pickleball focuses on keeping things stable and traditional, while the UPA brings fresh ideas and change. Together, they’re helping the sport move forward in exciting ways. The UPA are newer and has introduced a new Interim Certification Program aimed at setting standards for paddle performance and consistency in pickleball. The program assesses paddles based on criteria such as acceptable deflection force and maximum spin potential (measured in RPMs).

Starting in 2025, professional players participating in UPA-sanctioned events, including those in the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) and Major League Pickleball (MLP), will need to use paddles that meet UPA certification requirements.

Please note that certain tournaments require only USAP Approved Paddles to be used if in doubt please feel free to ask a member of the team.
